    Autumn 1

Mechanical systems: Making a pop-up book

We planned and created pop-up books that had hidden mechanical elements such as sliders, pivots and folds to create movement.

    Autumn 2

Cooking and Nutrition- developing a recipe

    In this unit we:

    • Described the process of beef production.
    • Researched a traditional recipe and make changes to it.
    • Added nutritional value to a recipe by selecting ingredients.

    Spring 2

In this D&T topic we will test and analyse various types of bridge to determine their strength and stability. Explore material properties and sources, before marking, sawing and assembling a wooden truss bridge.

    Summer 1

Our Doodlers unit explores series circuits further and introduces motors. Explore how the design cycle can be approached at a different starting point, by investigating an existing product, which uses a motor, to encourage pupils to problem-solve and work out how the product has been constructed, ready to develop their own.

    Summer 2

Throughout this topic we will apply Computing knowledge and understanding to program a Micro: bit animal monitoring device. Develop 3D CAD skills by learning how to navigate the Tinkercad interface and essential tools to combine multiple objects.
