Our Approach

At Buswells Lodge, we want to make sure that every child gets the best support we can offer, in order to help them enjoy their learning, feel confident and feel happy amongst their friends, and make the best possible progress.  This is in line with the guidance document 'Leicester City’s BERA Framework - delivering high quality SEND provision, the application of Best Endeavours and Reasonable Adjustments within a mainstream setting.'

Every child has individual needs that will affect their learning.  Sometimes children need special support to give them an extra boost or to help them catch up with other children of the same age. They may need this support for a short time or a longer period, but during this time they will be part of our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Register and we will keep a close eye on their progress, look carefully at what special support they need and keep in touch with their parents.

Before children are added to our SEND register, they will observed initially by their class teacher and then the SENDCo over a period of time.  After this, we may consult with external specialists for further insight. You will be kept informed at all stages of the process.

If you have concerns regarding your child's progress at school, please initially speak to your child's class teacher, who will record your views and pass them on to the SENDCo.

Concerns and Complaints

Our school works, wherever possible, in partnership with parents and families to ensure a collaborative approach towards meeting pupils' needs. All complaints are taken seriously and are heard through the school's complaints policy and procedure.

We also provide training on the SEND legal framework, and we influence policy at both a local and national level.

• Council for Disabled Children We are the umbrella body for the disabled children's sector bringing together professionals, practitioners and policy-makers.

Medical Conditions

Pupils with medical conditions will have an Individual Care Plan, which will specify the type and level of support required to meet the medical needs of the pupil.
