The fruits of our labour! We successfully planted and harvested some lettuce, radishes and coriander.

Leek and Potato Soup Making


Today we made Leek and Potato soup. We peeled and chopped the leeks, potatoes, onions and garlic before adding them to a pan with the vegetable stock. Then we blended the mixture and added a scoop of creme fraiche. Finally, we garnished our soup with a sprig of parsley. 

A key subject within this topic is Science. As part of this we have been looking at plants and their life cycles. Today we dissected and identified the parts of a flower.

We spent the majority of the afternoon working outside in our school allotment area. To begin with, we weeded and turned over the raised beds as well as weeding in and around the general area. We then planted a variety of seeds such as beans, squashes, peas and coriander. It was interesting to read the different planting instructions for each seed type and see the physical difference between the different seeds. Finally, we gave them a little water. We will monitor them over the coming months and hopefully, they will be ready to harvest in the autumn.
