Here are our Ancient Egyptian Death Masks that we've been working on for the past few weeks. These would have been made from gold and worn only by Pharaohs when they were buried. We made ours from cardboard, and used Papier-mâché to create the texture.
This afternoon, we used Papier-mâché to begin the construction of our Egyptian death masks.
Today we followed a set of instructions to construct our own sarcophagus (a coffin used by Ancient Egyptian pharaohs). In order to do this, we used our scoring, cutting and sticking skills. We then decorated them in the appropriate style and added words using Hieroglyphics.
Today we have built pyramids out of a variety of construction equipment. We learnt that the key was to have a good base on which to build the structure.
This week's activities included making an Egyptian style pot out of Plasticine. The children worked really hard to smooth the pot and add detail.
This week, Year 5 researched various elements of Ancient Egyptian life such as: Transport, Entertainment, Technology and Fashion. They then worked in groups to produce a presentation about their given area.
We began out Pharaohs topic by seeing a mummification reenactment. It was a little gory!
