REPORTING POSITIVE CASES OF COVID-19 OVER THE HALF TERM HOLIDAY

IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ

The Department for Education expects schools to remain on call between the start of the half-term holiday and Wednesday 17th February 2021 for parents to report if their child has tested positive for covid-19 so that other families within the same year group bubble can be informed.

If your child develops covid-19 symptoms between the end of the school day on Friday 12th February and Wednesday 17th February 2021 and then tests positive, please call the following number:

07902 326631

Please do not call the school office as there will be no-one there to take your call.

This phone line will be open between 9.00am and 12.00pm daily until Wednesday 17th February 2021 and is ONLY to be used for reporting covid-19 cases and NOT for any other school related business.

In the event of a positive case of covid-19 being reported, all appropriate children and staff of the same year group bubble will be contacted by text and email and advised to self-isolate for 10-days.

What to do if your child develops symptoms of COVID 19

If your child develops symptoms of COVID-19 over the school half-term holiday, they should remain at home for at least 10 days from the date when their symptoms appeared. Anyone with symptoms will be eligible for testing and this can be arranged via https://www.nhs.uk/ask-for-a-coronavirus-test or by calling 119.

All other household members who remain well, must stay at home and not leave the house for 10 days. This includes anyone in your ‘Support Bubble’.

Further information is available at:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance/stay-at-home-guidance-for-households-with-possible-coronavirus-covid-19-infection

The 10-day period starts from the day when the first person in the house became ill.

Household members should not go to work, school or public areas and exercise should be taken within the home.

If you require help with buying groceries, other shopping or picking up medication, or walking a dog, you should ask friends or family. Alternatively, you can order your shopping online and medication by phone or online.

Household members staying at home for 10 days will greatly reduce the overall amount of infection the household could pass on to others in the community

If you are able, move any vulnerable individuals (such as the elderly and those with underlying health conditions) out of your home, to stay with friends or family for the duration of the home isolation period.

Symptoms

The most common symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) are recent onset of:

  • a new continuous cough
  • a high temperature
  • a loss of, or change in, your normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)

For most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness.

If your child does develop symptoms, you can seek advice from the nhs.uk website at:

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/check-if-you-have-coronavirus-symptoms/.

If you are concerned about your child’s symptoms, or they are worsening you can seek advice from NHS 111 at https://111.nhs.uk/ or by phoning 111.

How to stop COVID-19 spreading

There are things you can do to help reduce the risk of you and anyone you live with getting ill with COVID-19

Do

  • wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
  • use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
  • wash your hands as soon as you get home
  • cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
  • put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards

REMINDER ABOUT ONLINE LEARNING

I would like to thank all the families who are supporting their children with our online learning through Seesaw. Over 3,000 pieces of work are being uploaded by children each week! This is a fantastic achievement in keeping children’s learning going over the lockdown.

It is very important that your child logs in to Seesaw every day and completes the work being set. We are monitoring how often children log in and are using this as a way of checking attendance.

If children are not regularly completing their work and we are unable to contact parents to offer help, we will ask the Education Welfare Officer to support us and contact families.

If you have any issues with Seesaw, please contact the school office who will be happy to help. Teachers can also be contacted through Seesaw if your child needs extra help with their work.

More information about Seesaw and our online learning offer can be found here:

SNOW CLOSURE DAY - MONDAY 25th JANUARY 2021

Following heavy snow fall today, I have decided that school will close to ALL children, including our Key Worker groups on Monday 25th January 2021.

This was not an easy decision to make, but is based on the assessment of the risk involved for staff and families travelling to school safely on roads that have had heavy snowfall and have frozen during the night.

All children should remain at home for the day and access online learning on Seesaw as usual. Teachers will continue to set work and provide marking and feedback as normal.

Please assume that school is open as usual to our Key Worker Groups on Tuesday 26th January unless you hear directly from us.

I appreciate your support and partnership.

Stay at home and keep safe!

Mr. S. Fewster

Headteacher

SCHOOL CLOSURE UPDATE

Thank you for your support at the start of this term. As you are aware that due to the high level of cases in the country, the new variant of Covid 19 and the pressure currently faced by the NHS, the country is in Lockdown. On January 4th, the Prime Minster, for safety reasons, closed schools for all pupils except for key workers and those classed as vulnerable. At the same time they also announced that nurseries can remain open for all children.

As a school we decided, in line with most primary schools in the country, that if schools were not safe for children and staff in all other year groups then this is no different for our youngest children and their staff members.

We have successfully moved to online learning and believe this to be the safest option for our community especially as currently Public Health Leicester state cases and hospital admissions in Leicester are currently higher than at any other time during the pandemic. We encourage all parents to engage with our online learning through Seesaw. If you have any problems accessing the work, please call the school office and we will be happy to help you.

As a school we would like to ensure that you know you have the option for your nursery aged child to return (nursery provision only, this is not permitted for children in any other year group) if you prefer.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you would like your child to have a place in our nursery currently. If you are happy to continue with the current situation you need take no further action.

Keep well.

Yours sincerely,

Mr. S. Fewster

Headteacher

  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal

Most people with coronavirus have at least 1 of these symptoms.

If anyone has any of the main symptoms of coronavirus they should:

  1. Get a test to check if they have coronavirus as soon as possible. Visit https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/testing-and-tracing/get-a-test-to-check-if-you-have-coronavirus/ or call 111 / 119.
  2. Stay at home and do not have visitors until they get the test result – they should only leave home to have a test. Anyone they live with and anyone in their support bubble, must also stay at home until they get the test result.
Do not attend your GP, pharmacy or local hospital unless advised.

Protect yourself and others from coronavirus;

  1. Wash your hands more often than usual, for 20 seconds using soap and water or hand sanitiser
  2. Cover your mouth and nose with disposable tissues when you cough or sneeze. If you do not have a tissue, sneeze into the crook of your elbow, not into your hand. Dispose of tissues into a disposable rubbish bag and immediately wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds or use hand sanitiser.
  3. You must wear a face covering by law in some public places unless you have a face covering exemption. You are also strongly encouraged to wear a face covering in other enclosed public spaces where social distancing may be difficult and where you come into contact with people you do not normally meet.
  4. Clean and disinfect regularly touched objects and surfaces using your regular cleaning products to reduce the risk of passing the infection on to other people

WHAT TO BRING TO SCHOOL

Your child can bring a water bottle and their packed lunch if they usually have one. Please make sure your child has a named water bottle with them every day as they will not be allowed to use water fountains. They MUST NOT bring their book bag, bags, PE kit or anything else like toys from home.

UNIFORM

Following Government guidance, when school re-opens, we WILL be expecting children to wear school uniform as usual. School uniform helps to help children settle back into the routine of being in school.

ATTENDANCE

The Government has stated that it expects ALL children to return to school in September. If your child is unable to come to school for any reason, you MUST contact the school office and let us know why. Attendance monitoring and penalty notices will begin to operate again from the start of the new school year.

TRAVELLING TO SCHOOL

We would like to encourage families to walk to school where possible in order to avoid traffic congestion on the main road. Please note that only ONE parent should bring their child to school and collect them each day so that we can avoid having too many people in the streets outside school at busy times. Please remember to following social distancing rules in the streets outside school.

ARRIVING AT SCHOOL

Please bring your child to the correct Key Stage Playground gate for your child’s Year Group starting time. It is very important that you arrive at school on time, please do not be late. We will not be unlocking the school gate until just before your child’s Year Group is due to start. When you arrive, please wait on the social distancing markers outside the gate. At the start of the day, we will NOT be allowing parents to come onto the playground. Your child will come into school to a socially distanced marker and will be taken into their classroom by a familiar member of staff. Please remember to follow social distancing rules in the streets outside school.

FACE MASKS / COVERINGS

Government guidance states that there is no requirement for children to wear face masks or face coverings while they are in school. If a child wears a face mask to school it will be their responsibility to look after it as members of staff will not be allowed to touch or handle it.

DAILY TIMETABLE

Your child will remain in the same year group ‘bubble’ all day, including at playtime and lunchtime, the other year groups will not mix and there will never be more than one year group on a playground at one time. Their day will be staggered to ensure that different groups of children and staff do not mix together.

HYGIENE

Pupils will be encouraged to wash their hands often, especially after using the toilet. We will also have hand sanitiser gel available for the children to use every time they come into the school building such as after playtime and lunchtime.

Staff will also regularly clean the classroom and toilets using anti-bacterial spray every time the children leave the room.

SCHOOL DINNERS

Our school kitchen will be open and will continue to provide a daily hot meal for your child if required. Children will line up for their meal using the social distancing markers on the floor in the hall. There will be a daily meat or vegetarian option. Kitchen staff will plate the food for your child and they will sit with their class / year group in the hall. Once the children have eaten they will be taken out to play. Only one year group will be in a dinner hall or on a playground at any one time to prevent Year Group Bubbles mixing.

PE LESSONS

Government guidance says that PE lessons can resume and we will be having our PE sessions outside. Your child’s class teacher will inform you about which days PE lessons will take place. On a PE day, your child will need to come to school in their PE kit so there is no need for them to change in the classroom.

HOMETIME

Just like in the morning, parents will need to come to the correct Key Stage playground gate. It is important that you arrive on time, please do not be late. The playground gate will remain locked until just before your child is due to leave. While you are waiting, please wait on the social distancing markers outside the gate. When the gates open, we will send your child over to you. Please be patient with us as this may take some time. Please remember to follow social distancing rules in the streets outside school.

MEDICATION

If your child has medication such as an asthma inhaler and has a care plan in school, you MUST send your child’s medication with them on their first day back. On the first day back, after dropping your child off, please give it to a member of staff at the playground gate who will take the medication from you and check it against their care plan. If your child has new medication that we do not know about, you MUST let us know before your child starts. Please note: children WILL NOT be allowed to return to school if they do not bring their medication with them.

ILLNESS

If your child is poorly and cannot come to school, you MUST phone the school office and let us know. If your child develops symptoms of covid-19, you should keep them at home and tell us at school IMMEDIATELY so that we can take action.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR QUERIES, PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO CONTACT THE SCHOOL OFFICE AND WE WILL BE HAPPY TO HELP YOU.

QUESTIONS SO FAR!

Thank you to the parents and carers who have contacted us with questions about the new school year - we want you to feel supported and reassured about our re-opening and the children returning to school on Tuesday 1st September.

Detailed information will be sent out to parents by email during the week beginning Monday 24th August 2020 and will also be posted on this page here on our website. We will also send text messages to parents to make them aware of the information available.

Here is some information based on questions that have been asked so far:

UNIFORM

We will be requiring children to wear school uniform when they return. The Government guidance on re-opening schools encourages children to wear school uniform as usual to help them settle back into the routine of daily school life.

YEAR GROUP BUBBLES

We will be keeping each year group in its own separate 'bubble' so that they do not mix with other year groups in school in order to reduce the chance of cross contamination. Each year group will have their own timetable for arrival, playtime, lunchtime and hometime and will remain in their own year group area during learning time. More information on this will be sent out next week.

MEDICATION AND CARE PLANS

If your child has regular medication, e.g. asthma inhalers, it is extremely important that they bring it with them on their first day back. If your child currently has a care plan, this will need to be checked. If your child has new medication that we do not know about, we will need to write a new care plan for them.
